AI: The Silent Shaper of Our Identity

(SeaPRwire) –   By: Alex Mercer, a Tech Director or Geek Analyst at a major Silicon Valley firm

This spring, graduation speeches took sides on AI. Some said it threatens humanity, others believed in human creativity. But they missed a key question: how does AI impact our self – knowledge and beliefs?

We’re already in an augmented world. GPS reroutes us, autocomplete finishes sentences. Algorithms control news, music, and product choices. We’re influenced by AI without knowing. It summarizes emails and sets meeting schedules, and social media decides our mood before coffee.

The focus on AI and attention has led to a wellness counter – movement. But taking a phone break doesn’t show the long – term effects of algorithmic curation. We need to consume consciously, noticing how media and information change us, even in our language use.

In the past, mass media like Saved by the Bell shaped a generation. Now, content is personalized, keeping us engaged 24/7. We’re shaped by AI – generated content, yet we seek self – understanding from horoscopes and personality tests. We rely on Spotify Wrapped for self – knowledge.

The “Algorithmic Self” is co – constructed through recommendation loops. External validation often replaces internal reflection. We must decide now if we want to play a role in who we’re becoming, as the human – AI augmentation will only continue.
